i saw the punk's not dead documentary at the boston film festival this week, and it turned out to be much better then i expected. instead of focusing on the pistols, ramones and the clash (as awesome as they are, we've heard it all before) the doc focused more on the early 80s and up. lots of black flag, social d, rancid, uk subs, etc... really gave a well rounded perspective on the whole scene, even getting into hot topic and the warped tour. ness had some funny quotes, and there was some nice early footage of the band that i'd never seen before. one thing that freaked me out... they asked bands like sum 41, good charlotte, and the used what the first punk band they ever heard was and they all said green day. A. that makes me feel crusty old B. that explains everything
so if you get a chance to see it, i'd check it out

there was a Q&A with the director after, and she said that they are going to be self-distributing the film this summer, then selling it after that

Thanks for the info on the movie! I didn't realize this was finished. I just bought tickets to see it Friday at the San Francisco film festival.

Saw this movie last night, I thought it was really, really good. I liked it better than other punk rock documentaries, because the the footage and editing were really good and often humorous, and I like more of the bands featured in this movie. Mike Ness appears a lot and is hillarious. A lot on the Dammed, Stiff Little Fingers, Addicts and many others. According to the Director the DVD will have other cool footage that didn't make it in the final cut. Another highlight for me was having Lars Frederickson of Rancid sitting at the end of my row!
